Threat Assessments and Risk Assessments

Threat assessment and risk assessment are two related, but distinct processes used to evaluate the safety and well-being of school-aged children, especially when there’s concern about violence, self-harm, or other dangerous behaviors. Our psychologists are trained in supporting both schools and families during an evaluation for a threat assessment or risk assessment. Our psychologists have been formally trained in the Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG) to evaluate and respond to student threats of violence or concerning behavior. Our psychologists have used a number of evidence-based instruments to perform these evaluations including, but not limited to:

  • The Millon Adolescent Clinical Inventory - II (MACI-II)

  • The Millon Pre-Adolescent Clinical Inventory (M-PACI)

  • The Trauma Symptoms Checklist

  • Children’s Depression Inventory 2 (CDI 2)

  • The Structured Assessment of Violence Risk in Youth (SAVRY)

  • The Psychosocial Evaluation & Threat Risk Assessment (PETRA)

  • The Scales for Assessing Emotional Disturbance - Third -Edition (SAED-3)

Parent Consult/Educational Consult

Parent/caregiver consultation services for families with children aged 3 to 22 with presenting social, emotional, or behavioral concerns. Educational consultation services are also available to support students and families in navigating the educational system to ensure appropriate academic planning, support, and access to services. HIPPA- compliant virtual services available.

Psychoeducational Evaluations

The comprehensive evaluation process begins with an initial consultation to identify the referral concern(s) and customize the assessment battery needed to fully understand the child/adolescent’s strengths and challenges. Next, a testing day is scheduled to administer relevant assessment measures (e.g., overall cognitive functioning, executive functioning, attention, memory skills, and social, emotional, and behavioral functioning, for example). Lastly, a feedback session with the child/adolescent and parent/guardian is scheduled to ensure understanding of the results and potential next steps for community and/or school-based support.
